Rolling stock weathering

June 23rd, 2015

While down in Devon on holiday last week, I started weathering a few Trinity 64′ reefers – one ExactRail and two BLMA.  I added graffiti decals and dirtied them up a bit.  Still need to tone down the rust spots and then spray with matt varnish to seal it all.  But a good start…my first weathered rolling stock!

New flyover trackwork completed & section of existing track re-laid

July 28th, 2014

Work has been progressing well on Rochelle Intermodal over the past week. I’ve completed all the trackwork on the new flyover section, including laying the single-slip and left-hand turnout (they still need to be hooked up to point motors…somehow!).

I also had to re-lay a section of track on the Caron loop board as the S-bend was too tight for my new Trinity Reefers from BLMA and ExactRail. Now they run round perfectly!

Still a few niggly bits of trackwork to sort out, mainly the rails at the board ends, some of which need slight alignment adjustment as there are still occasional derailments.

Here are a couple of photos showing the new flyover and replacement track:

I’ll post some more photos later this week as I do more work on the layout. My next step is to airbrush the trackwork with Testors Concrete, then paint the rails ready for ballasting.

Progress update: Ballasting

August 14th, 2008

I’ve completed ballasting track 1 and 2 on the front of module 1. I have done half of track 1 on module 2, and will hopefully get more done tonight.

The photos below show the progress so far, along with a few photos of a train on the tracks and signals.

I am going to add some detail bits between the two main tracks to make it a bit dirtier…looks a bit bare at the moment.

Right, here are the latest photos:

An overview of the ballasting progress so far…

I still need to put an LED in one of the NJ International signals (the one with the black target), and I need to paint the target on the other signal (which is fully functional with an LED). I am hoping that the rumour from BLMA about their N scale modern signal bridge is true as that would work perfectly on this part of the layout…but will have to wait and see! In the meantime, I am using the NJ International signals for this section of track.
