Rochelle Intermodal N Scale Intermodal & Switching Layout

Rochelle Intermodal

Welcome to the Rochelle Intermodal website, showcasing my old N scale layout. This layout was loosely based on Rochelle, Illinois, and had an intermodal facility (based on Global III) and industrial switching areas (based on Caron Road, Rochelle, IL.). This website is a place to show you my old Rochelle Intermodal N scale layout, with photos and videos. This website is no longer being updated.

My new layout, BNSF Chicago Sub N Scale can be found on the following website: https://chicagosubnscale.com

Railroad room construction update

July 18th, 2012

I’ve now finished the wall insulation in the railroad room (garage).  The electrician has been and has done the first fix wiring and I have installed the final insulation panels to hide the wiring.  Next step will be boarding over the walls and starting on the roof insulation, then getting the electrician back to cut the holes for the sockets and to install the sockets and light switches.

So, progressing well, and should be done in a few weeks, time permitting!

Railroad room progressing well

I’ve almost completed the stud wall framing in the garage – so far the floor is done, and most of the stud wall framing is up.  Next step is just to put stud wall in front of the old side door and across the window, which I will be boarding up.  Then I’ll be ready to get the electricians in to do the first fix wiring.

Railroad room construction begins…

April 10th, 2012

Finallly, I have started work on converting our garage into a proper insulated railroad room.  This past Easter weekend I spent a couple of days putting down the damp proof membrane followed by the first layer of 25mm Celotex insulation board, then two layers of 18mm plywood.  I’ve almost done half of the garage till rain stopped play (don’t really want to mix electric saws with rainwater!).

Here are the first photos:

Weather permitting, I should be able to finish off the floor this coming weekend.  Then I can get started on the walls and the electrics.
